Let`s get to know Aline Bock!!
Hey Aline, you had a short break how do you feel back on your board?
Hello, I am actually not back on my board yet. But I am doing rehab every day becoming stronger and stronger. So hopefully back soon. I am not in a hurry though, there was so much snow falling in east tirol and it became extremely dangerous out there. Or it got very warm because of the strong don winds and it destroyed everything. I am ok with it, as I will have more time to focus on my rehabilitation.
How did everything started with Snowboarding for you?
I have been snowboarding for over 18 years now. In this time it has grown from my hobby to my passion and my job. I have been riding halfpipe and slope style competitions between the age of 14 – 22, but then moved to big mountain freeriding. It has always been so much fun for me to travel to different places, to be out in the mountains and meet other riders with the same passion, to compete, take photos or film and nowadays to be out in the backcountry with my splitboard avoiding the crowds. It is a new way of moving in the mountains. It has given me a whole new horizon. Many lines that I have only seen from the slopes are getting accessible and I love the experience in nature.
Last year was tough for you, what do you think is the most important thing to move on after a crash?
My last season was more than awesome. I competed at the Freeride World Tour and were also able to film for True Color Films and Lipstick Productions. Alaska was also definitely a season highlight as I had planed to go for a couple of years already. Austria had plenty of snow last winter so you could just go out and ride deep powder almost every day.
My accident was in 2011 and it brought me very down to earth. You learn how important it is to be healthy and you learn to appreciate the little things in life again. Getting out of bed without pain was a huge highlight for example. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, you just have to get back on your feet again!
From where do you take that „push“ to progress that hard?
I just love to be out snowboarding. I don´t try to push, I just do what is fun and sometimes it means to overcome your fears as well. I know my abilities, but I also know my boundaries. If I don’t feel doing something, I pull back and just don’t do it. But if i am thinking : „Hey, you can do this, it just looks scary, but you can do it“!, I try. If I fail, I try harder 😉
How does your perfect day look like?
In summer: surf session in the morning, 1,5m waves, glassy or light offshore, no crowds!
In winter: there is nothing better than a powder day with friends at home. It can be dumping or bluebird, I don´t care. NO CAMERA, NO PHOTOGRAPHER! Just riding for ourselves 😉
What kind of hint do you have for the CHIXXS out there?
Be safe out there in the backcountry! Always bring your shovel, probe and avalanche transceiver – and know how to use it. Safe your mates, be prepared!
How would you descirbe your passion?
fun, love, soul food, apiness, hadrenaline,
Favortit Music Track to shred?
If you are off piste you should take your headphones down. You need to know whats going on around you and therefore listening to music is a no go! But you can sing yourself as much as you want. Right now I would sing „Let´s go surfing/The drums“ riding down a face 😉
What are your goals for this season?
Get my knee back in shape, become stronger than before, ride faster, jump higher! Be safe and go split boarding as much as I can
