Hi Anne-Flore how was your last Winter Season?
I had a blast ! Rode the biggest ammount of fresh pow everyday in italy with Hana Beaman and Robin Van Gyn, went on a road trip around California with my Sosh Team mates skate and BMX and then did the most extra ordinary travel of my life! Went splitboarding in Greenland, staying on a sail boat, navigating through icebergs to get dropped off each day a the bottom o the mountains!! Absolutely incredible! I am so blessed!
You`r one of this women, getting the chance to ride the Big Mountains all over the world. What does that means to you?
Yeah there are not that many of us.. I love it! Its harsh and beautiful, takes a lot out of you but give you so much more to be remembered! Everything is bigger.. steepper, scarier, more exciting, more dangerous, more beautiful, more rewarding, more pressure, more freedom, more mountains, more adventurous.. palpitations of life in capital.
In 2011 you won the „Freeride Worldcup“ and way more, how does it feel to get a hugh title like that?
Titles look good on paper. I m glad i got to tick hat box.. but in the end results dont matter much to me.. I like going to extraordinary places better.. discorvering new cultures or sharing happy moments with people who count better than racing for a podium!
How do you keep yourself in a good shape, to be able to get yourself out into the Backcountry terain?
I love doing sports in the outdoors so i never really feel like i am trying to maintain good shape. I just go out and snowboard or splitboard all winter and then i go surfing and yoga as much as possible in the off season. Then i never miss a chance for some fun, like hiking in the mountains, via ferrata, climbing, rafting or whatever shows up. Way more fun than going tot he gym! 😉
You’ve been to Patagonia last sumer, what kind of memories do you have from that exploring time?
Patagonia was breath taking! It was my first only splitboard trip. A lot of hiking deep in the mountains, staying up in mountain huts and reaching the snow by horse backriding. I absolutely loved it!! What a giagantic breath of fresh air! I felt very lucky to get to explore those wild terrains! it was sort of a dream come true, no boundaries, unlimite exploring, gigantic feel for freedom.
What really means Snowboarding to you?
I guess snowboarding pretty much tought me everything. It’s my frist love, what got me through difficult times as a teenager, let me express my rebellness, my thirst for travel, freedom, party fun, curiosity.. the most exciting sensations too! From speed, to hights, flying, pushing my own limits, it helped me mesure what i was capable of.. self accomplishment..It became my job, tought me lots of things on the professional level, product development, marketing, communication, PR, languages. It s made strong and thankfull, it s hurt me as well, pain and injuries and how you grow from it each time and then just let go of your fears and have fun again..
It s made me meet unbelievable great amazing inspirational people all over the planet. It s taken some of my best friends out of this life as well, but most importantly it’s always been and always will be a bottomless source of joy and magic!
The Backcountry Terain is still Men dominated, what do you think is the reason to that?
It takes a lot of guts and lots of experience!
Snowboarding stays a sexist sport even though 40% of praticants are women. Sponsors support 1 girl and dont really care weather she rides pipe, slope style or backcountry as long as she fills up the women’s products page of their catalog. Contests help you win money, back country costs money.
Contest are accessible to anyone in any resorts, in the end it takes one result in one day tob e productive and help you reach next level of competition or endorsment. One 1st place gives you a ranking position understood by all.
Backcountry takes years of hard work for experience, in the park then in the mountains. Plus while you re at it, it takes days even weeks to get a couple good shots, and you need quite a lot oft hem before it translates into something productive in term of communication and becomes valuable. And still doesnt really give you a clear state of your riding level ranking.
But then backcountry is so exciting and beautiful and great and rad and cool and difficult and and and.. i wouldnt go back to being stuck in a park for any gold medal in the world!
What are you doing in Sumer time?
Last summer i spent the whole summer in Patagonia. I used to spend my summers on snow till i was about 17, but this year i ll spend it at the beach. Surfing as much as possible, i don’t really have the finances to go anywhere so i ll take a break and enjoy my second favorite thing !! Surfing!!
What kind of a hint do you have for the CHIXXS out there?
No matter what you do, do it your own way, give it all, be humble and proud. Dont ever let anyone tell you what you re not capable of! Follow your heart, stay true to your self and enjoy every bit of it !
